PART I ARTICLE IV – Ring and Ring Implements

104.1 The ring

(1) The ring shall not be less than 16 nor more than 20 feet square within the
ropes; the apron of the ring floor shall extend beyond the ropes not less than
two feet. The ring shall not be more than four feet above the floor of the
building or grounds of an outdoor arena and shall be provided with three
sets of suitable steps for the use of boxers, coaches and officials, one in each
boxer’s corner and one in a neutral corner for use by doctors and referee.
(a) For international competition, the minimum size shall be 16 feet square
and the maximum size 20 feet square, measured inside the line of the
ropes. In international championships, the size of the ring shall be 20
feet square, measured inside the line of the ropes, and it shall not be less
than three feet or more than four feet above the ground or base.

Boxing techniques for beginners

Boxing is a sport that is highly technical and involves various types of basic and hybrid techniques of combat. But, for beginners, most of the training programs and instructional experts suggest that it is better to stick to the traditional and time proven basic techniques. Beginners are taught the rudiments of boxing techniques, right from the first session onwards. A typical first session of training on techniques begins with the stance or posture of the boxer. There are different types of stances – upright, semi crouch and full crouch stances. The beginners are taught all of these stances and are put through the practice paced for each of the stances. The instructors do not allow the choice of preferred stance to the beginners at this stage. The upright stance is an even spaced stance of shoulder width with the wrong foot leading in the front by half a step.
